Sometimes you’re just in the mood for some original feel-good girly movies from the early 2000s. You add them to your Netflix and Hulu lists for when you are in the mood to rewatch your favorite movies that taught you what love is. Nowadays it’s just so hard to compare to movies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Legally Blonde. But stop your worrying. We’ve got you covered with recent and upcoming movies to stream next time you’re in need of a little early 2000s-style mood.
Table 19
Table 19 hit theaters back in 2017, but it could have easily been written circa 2005. The movie stars Anna Kendrick, who portrays Eloise, an ex-maid of honor who was dumped by the best man via text, but attends the wedding anyways. She is seated with other unwanted guests at Table 19 and then things really take off. This wedding starts out somewhat terribly, but it’s definitely fun to watch.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again
The singing and dancing in Greece never ends in this franchise. Amanda Seyfried is back as Sophie, who is now pregnant. This movie is literally stacked with early 2000s good vibes and actors, and is an absolute pleasure to watch. And it’s an excuse to rewatch the other movies and go on a complete Mamma Mia binge. Win-win.
Always Be My Maybe
Always Be My Maybe is the movie you watch when you need a good laugh. This movie pretty much perfectly depicts what it is like to run into an old fling after a long time of being apart. Ali Wong and Randall Park grow up next door to each other and reconnect as adults. Shocker: just like with every 2000s rom-com, there is still a spark between them. Things get complicated, but it makes for a very fun time sitting around with your favorite snacks and eyes glued to the television.
Legally Blonde 3
Elle Woods is back (*shriek*), but there still isn’t much talk about what she is up to in this third movie of the franchise. Luckily, Elle is still played by Reese Witherspoon, and the original writers and producers are back too, as well as some of the original actors. In simpler terms, it is guaranteed to be a total hit. It has been a whole 17 years since we last saw Elle in Legally Blonde: Red, White, and Blonde. Unfortunately, there is still no release date, though IMDB claims pre-production is expected to start May 2020. Legally Blonde is a movie staple of the 2000s, so it’s safe to say, when you are in need of an early 2000s pick-me-up, this will be the movie to watch.
