Kanye Claims God Told Him To Crash Taylor Swift’s 2009 VMAs Speech

Not many moments have gone down in VMAs history quite like the year Kanye West took the stage, stole the mic from Taylor Swift in the midst of her acceptance speech, and said she didn’t deserve the Video of the Year award. It’s a moment that sparked a feud between the two for years. Kanye has previously apologized to Taylor, but he recently announced that God told him to crash Taylor’s VMAs speech.

West gave an interview with Nick Cannon on his Youtube series Cannon’s Class on Sept. 1.

“Right now, God is giving me the information and he ain’t gave me no other information other than this information, so that means he wants me to say this now,” West said in the interview. “If God ain’t want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row.”

West continued fangirling over “Single Ladies”. “I would’ve been sitting in the back, they wouldn’t have made it the first award and they wouldn’t have made it so ridiculous of an idea, because I had never heard of this person before then. And ‘Single Ladies’ is one of the greatest videos of all time.”

In the interview West also admitted he had been drinking before he interrupted Swift. “I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn’t want to go to the awards show because it was a set-up,” he admits.

Back in September 2009, the day after the VMAs, West apologized to Swift for stealing the spotlight.

“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom,” he wrote on his blog. “I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!”

It’s been 11 years, and nobody has forgotten that hilarious and shocking moment when Kanye took the stage and made VMAs history….all because God said to apparently.
