Here’s Why Harry And Meghan Are Returning To London

About a week ago, the Duke and Duchess announced their upcoming return to Frogmore Cottage, the Sussexes’ home in England. This meant Harry and Meghan would be returning to the U.K. for the first time since March 9th, when Harry made his last official appearance at the Commonwealth Day service. So, why are they coming back, you may ask? And when? Is this permanent? Who all is going?

If you recall, the original plan was to always split time between California and the U.K. “We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America,” the royal couple announced in a statement on January 8. “This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter.” Due to the pandemic, it’s taken Harry and Meghan longer to return to London than originally planned. The pandemic cancelled large gatherings and made air travel nearly impossible for the couple.

“There have been a lot of rumors circulating about this. Had it not been for COVID and travel restrictions, they would have already been back in the U.K. For events like Beatrice’s wedding and Trooping of the Colour, for example,” a close source shared with Vogue. And now that the United States and the U.K. are supposedly developing a safer travel corridor between the two countries, it makes for an easier overseas visit.

The couple might have a set reason for returning, though. Markle’s court case against the publisher of The Mail on Sunday officially begins January 11, 2021 and lasts 10 days. Vanity Fair reported that the couple will return before the trial due to needing to undergo a two-week quarantine after traveling from America to the U.K. In other words, the couple would need to leave the U.S. at least by late December.

It will likely be a very emotional reunion for the royal family. Since they last saw each other Harry and Meghan have: announced a Netflix deal, bought their first home, and paid back the public for Frogmore Cottage. So what happens next? The whole world is dying to find out what’s next for these royals who love to break away from tradition.
