From the age of literally just six-months-old, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were destined to be famous. As they got older, they built an empire. The twins became absolutely legendary by the time they were just teens. And sure, they were super successful due to all of their hard work. But what made them so popular goes beyond just their hard work. So let’s analyze what exactly made them the coolest girls of the 90s and early 2000s.
They Were Talented From A Young Age
It seems like forever ago when the twins starred as the cute baby, Michelle, on Full House, who grew into one of the most loved characters of the show. They were just six-years-old when they created Dualstar Entertainment and became the youngest producers in Hollywood. The sisters starred in around 20 movies plus various TV shows. What was cool, though, was that they produced the majority of these movies and shows. Once they were teens, they decided to venture into the fashion world. They took their talents and created a fashion and beauty line that was sold at Walmart. Then, they finally created their famous fashion line, The Row. Later, they created another line, Elizabeth and James. So, basically they’ve been successful ever since they’ve been itty bitty babies and haven’t stopped.
The Twins Oozed Good Energy
No matter the age, any time you were to watch Mary-Kate or Ashley in action, there was just something about them that radiated. Sure, they were beautiful and talented. But ever since they were babies on Full House they had some kind of special glow that followed in their tracks. They literally oozed positivity. You couldn’t not be drawn to them. They were chill, confident, and happy, always. It was the kind of energy you were dying to imitate.
They Were Fashion Icons
Apparently, even little Michelle Tanner was wearing Chanel and Marc Jacobs. So it’s no wonder why Mary-Kate and Ashley grew up to love fashion as much as they did. They had the whole girly-girl-meets-cool vibe going for them in the 90s and early 2000s. When they started their Walmart line, every girl was stocking up on their line to look like their favorite twins. They truly impacted how every girl dressed. If they wanted to wear one-sleeve shirts, girls were wearing one-sleeve shirts. If suddenly they wanted to wear platform sandals, then platform sandals were in. Whatever they wore, everyone else followed.
Drama Wasn’t Their Thing
Unlike most celebrities who carried that much fame, the Olsen twins did an amazing job staying out of celebrity drama. Mary-Kate briefly went through an eating disorder. But besides that, nobody can say much. The two stayed out of any drama that might have come their way. That’s what made them so cool. They didn’t like to get caught up in all of that nasty gossip that tends to follow celebrities. There was even briefly a museum in NYC dedicated to them hiding from the paparazzi.
As far as the 90s and early 2000s are concerned, I think it’s safe to say that Mary-Kate and Ashley pretty much owned those years. Were they cool? Check. Talented? Check. Fashionable? Check check check. Everything all girls of that age wanted to be. So yeah, they were the best of their time and are still going.
