Get ready because your favorite spooky family is coming to Netflix. Tim Burton is directing a new spinoff Addams Family series about Wednesday Addams, titled Wednesday.
Netflix announced the spinoff back in February 2021 and revealed the first look at the show’s artwork. This included a silhouette of Wednesday playing the cello with a large knife rather than a bow.
Few other details have been released about the eight-episode series. However, since Burton has a certain affection for horror and goth aesthetics, he and the Addamses should be just fine.
Although there have been other attempts to bring back the Addamses, this is the first time the focus has been on Wednesday Addams alone. Here’s what we know so far about the series.
Release Date
Although there’s no release date yet since it’s currently in production, it’s estimated to be released in 2022.
Cast & Crew
Netflix announced in May 2021 that Jenna Ortega will lead as Wednesday in the new series. The You actress confirmed the news with an Instagram selfie holding a script for the first episode. “New chapter,” she wrote. “Hope I can do Wednesday Addams justice.”
None of the cast members from earlier films will be featured in the new series. However, several Addams Family alums are joining in behind the scenes. Andrew Mittman, Gail Berman, and Kevin Miserocchi, all of whom were part of the 2019 Addams Family, are helping executive produce alongside Jonathan Glickman, who’s an excutive producer on The Addams Family 2.
Plot
The series will follow Wednesday throughout her Nevermore Academy school days. According to a press release, this involves Wednesday’s “attempts to master her emerging psychic ability,” in addition to her mission to “thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.”
Wednesday’s Parents
Netflix announced in August 2021 that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán were cast as Morticia and Gomez Addams, Wednesday’s parents. “Thrilled!!!!” The Narcos actor tweeted after the news broke.
