Chase Stokes Called Madelyn “Mads” In An ‘Outer Banks’ Scene

If you didn’t notice this little slip-up that John B. made in Season 2’s third episode, entitled “Prayers,” you might want to rewatch it. A fan noticed that Chase Stokes called girlfriend Madelyn Cline “Mads” instead of “Sarah” – her character’s name – during the dramatic scene where she almost dies. Stokes and Cline are dating in real life, and he often calls her “Mads,” which he appeared to have whispered into her ear during the emotional scene.

In the episode, Sarah struggles to stay alive after her brother, Rafe, shoots her. John B. brings her to a doctor and tries to save her, then attempts to administer CPR. When John B. notices that it’s not working, the tears begin and he starts to murmur the word “Mads” while laying on her chest.

Of course, TikTok was where the scene was first brought to attention. A fan asked, “Did anyone else notice that Chase Stokes said ‘Mads’ during Sarah’s death scene?” Even though there was not any sound to confirm this theory, it was pretty obvious Stokes said something other than “Sarah” when he was crying.

Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes seem to usually keep things very professional on set. Whether he said “Mads” or “Sarah”, the two are totally adorable together, and so worth rooting for.
