Britney Spears Confirmed Engagement To Sam Asghari

Britney Spears may have been dealing with a battle over her conservatorship for some time now, but she finally has something worth celebrating…. her engagement! The singer confirmed her plans to wed for the third time to her longtime boyfriend, Sam Asghari, on Sunday, September 12th.

Branden Cohen, a talent manager for Asghari, confirmed the engagement Sunday night.

“The couple made their longstanding relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them,” Cohen said.

The couple both took to Instagram to announce their engagement and show off the ring.

Cohen shared that the ring was designed by New York City jeweler Roman Malayev.

“He couldn’t be happier to be involved and make this one-of-a-kind ring,” Cohen added.

This engagement happened just days after lawyers for Britney Spears’s father, Jamie Spears, wrote in a filing, “If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance.”

Britney gave a statement in her case in June saying that under conservatorship she was not able to marry or have a child.

“I want to be able to get married and have a baby,” she said. “I was told right now in the conservatorship I am not able to get married or have a baby.”

Britney filed in July to have her father removed from his role as conservator of her estate. Jamie Spears fought back on the request, but finally announced that he’d step aside and work with the court to assure “an orderly transition to a new conservator.”

As for Asghari and Britney’s relationship, Asghari told Men’s Health in 2018 that he met Britney in 2016 while working on a music video for her song “Slumber Party.”

In an interview with Forbes in March, the Iranian-born actor, 27, spoke about his relationship with Spears.

“My priorities in life are to remain humble and understand where I came from and where I’m going,” he told the outlet. “I want to take my career to the next step when it comes to acting. I want to take my relationship to the next step, as well. I don’t mind becoming a father. I want to be a young dad.”

He spoke about Britney in another interview with PEOPLE.

“I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves,” he said. “I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.”
