The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Will Arrive This Weekend

New York City is prepping for the holiday season, and with that comes the traditional Rockefeller Christmas tree. This year’s Christmas tree will be cut on Thursday, Nov. 11, for the first time ever in Maryland. The Norway spruce is set to arrive at the Rockefeller Center by Saturday, Nov. 13. According to Rockefeller Center, the tree is approximately 79 feet tall, 46 feet wide and weighs 12 tons. The Christmas tree is also approximately 85 years old.

A family was generous enough to donate the Norway spruce from Elkton, Maryland.

NBC4 reported that the news of the tree had been kept secret for weeks, while authorities kept watch on the tree in its hometown.

“I found out about the tree from our lovely sheriff, who has been guarding the tree and making sure it is safe, and nothing happens to it,” Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger told NBC.

Once the tree reaches the plaza, it will be decorated with over 50,000 LED lights and topped with a Swarovski crystal star prior to the tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 1.
