Dumbledore is by far one of the most notorious characters of all time, not just in the Harry Potter world. And now that we are finally getting a movie dedicated to Dumbledore and his background? Well, we need to honor that. So we’re doing so by putting together a collection of some of the greatest quotes by Dumbledore, whether inspirational or just downright funny.
- “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
- “Horace! Do you mind if I take this? I do love knitting patterns.”
- “People find it far easier to forgive others for being wrong than being right.”
- “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”
- “What happened down in the dungeons between you and Professor Quirrell is a complete secret… so, naturally the whole school knows.”
- “While we may come from different places and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one.”
- “It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”
- “The truth: It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with caution.”
- “Do you know, Harry, I think she might have been. Who’d have thought it? That brings her total of real predictions up to two. I should offer her a pay raise.”
- “Youth can not know how age thinks and feels, but old men are guilty if they forget what it is to be young.”
- “To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.”
- “You are quite right, of course, Professor Umbridge. As High Inquisitor you have every right to dismiss my teachers. You do not, however have the authority to send them away from my castle. I am afraid, that the power to do that still resides with the headmaster, and it is my wish that Professor Trelawney continue to live at Hogwarts.”
- “Alas! Earwax!”
- “Really, Hagrid, if you are holding out for universal popularity, I’m afraid you will be in this cabin for a very long time.”
- “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
- “Perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it.”
- “Well, it’s just that you seem to be laboring under the delusion that I am going to – what is the phrase? ‘Come quietly’ I am afraid I am not going to come quietly at all, Cornelius. I have absolutely no intention of being sent to Azkaban. I could break out, of course – but what a waste of time, and frankly, I can think of a whole host of things I would rather be doing.”
- “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
- “We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.”
- “Well, being me has it’s privileges.”
- “It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends.
- “Nittwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!”
- “Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living and above all, those who live without love.”
- “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”
- “One can never have enough socks.”
- “You are protected, in short, by your ability to love.”
- “You think the dead we loved truly ever leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly in times of great trouble?”
- “It’s lucky it’s dark. I haven’t blushed so much since Madam Pomfrey told me she liked my new earmuffs.”
- “And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.”
- “But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Ahh, Dumbledore. Gotta love him.
