Everything To Know About ‘Madame Web’ So Far

The Spider-Verse is expanding. While it’s been big in the past, the upcoming addition sounds like it will be even more on the haunting and creepy side. Madame Web is supposed to bring one of Marvel’s most dark and unique mutants to the big screen. Here’s what fans can expect from the new film thus far.

Plot

Even though Madame Web is a Marvel character, the upcoming movie will not be part of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rather than teaming up with the Avengers, Madame Web is set in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, which was created by Venom and its sequel and is being expanded to feature Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, Nightwatch, and Sinister Six. These movies tend to have a darker tone than their other Marvel counterparts, incorporating loads of horror and psychological thriller moments.

The new film is predicted to go into the dark, horror-inspired intrigue of this universe, considering the character it’s based on. In the comics, Madame Web is an elderly woman who is paralyzed and blind, living out her days connected to a web-like life support machine. Even though she’s physically limited, she has powerful mental abilities, such as clairvoyance, telepathy, and precognition. She helps Spider-Man in his battles by providing insight.

The full plot of Sony’s Madame Web movie is being held under wraps for the time being.

Premiere Date

Sony hasn’t announced a release date for Madame Web, and it likely won’t come out for some time. The studio is developing a handful of Spider-Verse films, a few of which were announced prior to Madame Web was first picked up in 2019. It’s unclear where this film falls in the lineup, but don’t be shocked if it doesn’t hit screens until 2024 or so.

Cast

Dakota Johnson will star as Madame Web, which may seem odd since she is most famously known as an elderly woman. The movie will also star Sydney Sweeney, though it hasn’t been announced who she will play. She could potentially play Julia Carpenter, the comic-book hero who began as Spider-Woman and ended up inheriting Madame Web’s powers and name upon Web’s murder.

Three months after Sweeney joined the cast, Emma Roberts signed on as another cast member. Roberts’ role has also not yet been revealed. The cast is rounded out by Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Cerced, and Tahar Rahim.

Trailer

It’s definitely too early for a trailer, but keep your eyes out as the movie enters production.
