It’s been about three decades since we last saw the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus.
Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Mary (Kathy Najimy) are nearly back, and the first trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 has been released, giving a first look into what’s to come. The sequel premieres on Disney+ on September 30, perfect timing for Halloween.
Hocus Pocus hit big screens in 1993, telling a story of three witch sisters in Salem, Mass., who spent 300 years asleep before the young Max Dennison (Omri Katz) lit the Black Flame Candle, which resurrects them on All Hallow’s Eve. The sisters have a face off with Max and sister Dani (Thora Birch), who must stop the witches from becoming immortal before the sun comes up. Kenny Ortega was the director of the original, and Anne Fletcher will direct the sequel.
Even though they died at the end of the original movie, they have risen once again, this time facing two young girls who light the candle again. The new film includes Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Doug Jones, Whitney Peak, Ginger Minj, Kahmora Hall and Kornbread Jeté.
Hale spoke of playing two characters in the sequel, an “evil reverend” and a mayor.
“Another surreal experience. That movie is a Halloween classic, and meeting Bette, and Sarah Jessica and Kathy Najimy, who was on ‘Veep’ with me… it was really fun,” Hale said.
