It’s wedding season, and amid all the fancy ones, it’s always nice to see something more down-low. On Tuesday, July 20, Page Six reported that Anya Taylor-Joy secretly married musician Malcom McRae in an “intimate courthouse wedding.”
It’s unsure where exactly the location of the wedding was, but Taylor-Joy and McRae dated for a year prior to getting wed. The actress, who has previously referred to herself as “quite a private person,” first called attention to their relationship in an April 2021 with Elle, in which she referred to McRae as “my partner.”
Taylor-Joy later shared with British Vogue about the relationship, describing how the pair explored long distance by appreciated “everyday mundane activities” like “going to the petrol station” and reading in silence. “I finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading,” the actress told Vogue. “We’re basically 80-years-old and seven at the same time and it works really well.”
Besides the occasional film premiere kiss and when McRae publicly dedicated a song to Taylor-Joy, the couple has kept their relationship on the DL. They first sparked engagement rumors last month when Taylor-Joy was photographed sporting a shiny green-diamond ring in Sydney.
Neither of the two have publicly commented on reports of their marriage, and there are not many details about the ceremony itself, with Harper’s Bazaar reporting that the couple wed “somewhere in the U.S.” prior to flying to Australia, where Taylor-Joy is shooting the film Furiosa. According to Page Six, the newlyweds were seen in Sydney earlier this week, with the actress wearing her ring. It’s extremely low-key, but sources claim the couple plan to “have a bigger ceremony” when they return to the States.
