Everything To Know About ‘Gossip Girl’ Season Two

The Gossip Girl reboot had a lot of expectations when it premiered in 2021. It had to reinvent the beloved fictionalized high-society of the Upper East Side and bring it to the 2020s, with a new cast, and newer views of the world. The new show was obviously still tasked with preserving the parts of Gossip Girl that made the original so irresistible: the charismatic and distinctive styles of the main characters, and, of course, the raunchiness. Even though the reboot has received mixed reviews, it has been renewed for another season. So, what will come out of Gossip Girl season two? Here, see what we know so far of season two of the Gossip Girl reboot.

As of right now, it appears the whole cast from the first season will return for the second. This includes Jordan Alexander, Whitney Peak, Zión Moreno, Savanna Lee Smith, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Thomas Doherty, and Eli Brown. And Michelle Tratchtenberg, who played Georgina Sparks in the original, will be made an additional character.

“The decision was: Let’s get Season 1 under our belt, and should we get Season 2, we’ll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines,” John Safran, the executive producer and showrunner of the original series and the first season of the reboot told The Daily Beast. “Hopefully we’ll get there and will reach out to the cast if that time comes and see if they’ll want to come. There are some cameos in Season 1 from people on the original show, but not the season regulars.”

Safran noted that season two of the reboot will steer closer in feeling and plot to the original series, and is “messier” than the first. Even though the details of the storyline are not clear, one part of it will involve Georgina and her son, Milo (who was introduced in the first season).

“What [Georgina] brought to the original series was anarchy,” Safran told Teen Vogue. “She’s an anarchist. She’ll do anything and just for any reason she decides. So we brought that energy to the first show, and then we brought that energy back to this one. She’s the same, and that’s what I think is so fun, that Michelle is older, we’re all older, Georgina is older yet has the exact same energy. She’s out of time.”

The second season of the Gossip Girl reboot will premier on December 1, 2022. Unlike the last season, this one will not be split into two parts, but will run as one whole, with episode airing weekly.
