Prince William and Princess Kate are headed to America to host their Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony.
Per a Kensington Palace release, the royals will have a glamorous lineup of stars performing at the ceremony, such as Billie Eilish and her brother, FINNEAS. British musicians Annie Lennox and Ellie Goulding (who performed at Prince William and Kate’s wedding reception in 2011) will also perform, as well as R&B duo Chloe x Halle. Hosting the event will include broadcasters Clara Amfo and and Sir David Attenborough, and actors Catherine O’Hara, Rami Malek, Shailene Woodley, and Daniel Dae Kim.
Princess Kate will hand out the prizes, while Prince William is to make the closing remarks.
“Each winning solution will be awarded €1million in prize funding to help support and scale their innovations, with the potential to repair our planet,” the palace release said.
The celebrity participants are supporters of William and Kate’s efforts towards helping the environment.
“It is an honor to be a presenter at this year’s Earthshot Prize Awards. The Finalists are extraordinary, and I am thrilled to play a part in helping to spotlight their incredible solutions and the inspiring work they do every day,” Woodley said, per the palace.
“The fifteen Finalists of this year’s Earthshot Prize are deeply inspiring. They are dedicating their lives to building solutions that will repair our planet, and I can’t wait to present an award to one of the incredible Winners for 2022,” Malek said.
“I am a big supporter of the Prince of Wales’ passion for the environment and share in the The Earthshot Prize’s mission to protest and restore our planet,” Goulding said. “I am particularly excited for viewers around the world to learn about the innovative solutions presented by this year’s cohort of Finalists.”
Prince William and The Royal Foundation founded The Earthshot Prize in 2020, and is an ambitious global environmental prize aiming to discover and advance groundbreaking eco-solutions to repair and regenerate the planet. The Prize’s five “Earthshot” goals are: protect and restore nature, clean our air, revive our oceans, build a waste-free world, and fix our climate.
This year’s event will be held on Friday, December 2, at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway and will air Sunday, December 4, at 5:30 p.m. GMT on BBC. The ceremony will also be available to stream on The Earthshot Prize YouTube channel later that evening. In the U.S., the ceremony will start streaming at 2 p.m. EST on Monday, December 5, on pbs.org and the PBS app, and 8 p.m. EST on the PBS YouTube channel.
