Four Ways To Care For Your Hair In Winter

Hair care changes with season and day-to-day. The winter is a very delicate moment for your strands. Influencing the health and appearance of your hair are the sudden changes in temperature between the cold winter outside and the heat of the rooms. Rubbing with fabrics – woolen shirts and synthetic clothes – jeopardizes the balance by generating electricity to the point of weakening and dulling the hair. In addition, hats and headgear can irritate the scalp, causing dryness, redness and dandruff. However, it is possible to strengthen your hair this winter. Here’s how:

  1. Use the “Sandwich Method”

Trichologist Angela Onuoha, who specializes in hair and scalp care, shows how to cleanse dry, brittle hair. The method is called the “Sandwich Method” and consists of four basic steps. First, apply a mask or conditioner before washing your hair, then rinse it thoroughly with water, before spreading and massaging the shampoo – only on the top of the head and on the scalp. Applying the conditioner on the lengths ends the cleansing.

2. Reduce Washing

Low temps are a great opportunity to try out a new good habit, which is harder to try in the summer: washing your hair less. The cleansing could be reduced to once or twice a week. A strategy that allows you to create the best soil for the growth of healthier hair, keeping the scalp microbiome in balance. Washing should focus on the skin to remove accumulations of products, oils, dead cells and pollution that can clog it.

3. Try a Microfiber Towel

Reducing drying time when the hair is wet protects it from dehydration and dryness. The best method is to not use a hair dryer at max temperature or to spread a jet of hot air right on the cuticle, but to act first. Using, for example, microfiber towels rather than terry towels. Microfiber towels consist of a thicker fabric that absorb more water and faster. An advantage of this is it allows to preserve the hydration of the hair. Then you can proceed with drying, without running the risk of boiling the strands.

4. Never Go Out With Wet Hair

Drying your hair to perfection is very crucial. When hair is wet it is also more fragile and prone to breakage. A condition that should be minimized as much as possible. Your strands’ elastic consistency exposes it to the risk of damage, and the water it’s wrapped in may cause the hair to freeze at low temperatures causing it to break.
