10 Holiday Cocktails To Make You Feel More Merry

After all you go through during the holidays, you deserve festive holiday cocktails to kick back with. Whether you’re in the mood for eggnog, a hot toddy, or some adult hot chocolate, you’ll find we have holiday cocktails for everyone. So go ahead and stroll through these recipes to find which of these holiday cocktails will be your new favorite.

  1. Classic Eggnog

Ingredients

  • 2 Large eggs plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, plus more for topping
  • 1/2 cup cold rum or brandy
  • Cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  • Whisk eggs, egg yolk and sugar in a bowl until combined. Heat the milk and 1/2 cup heavy cream in a medium heat until steaming, not boiling. Remove from heat.
  • Whisk 1 cup of the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, then whisk the egg mixture back into the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of the spoon and a thermometer is 165 degrees F, for about five minutes. (Do not boil.)
  • Strain the mixture through a sieve into a large bowl and stir in the vanilla and nutmeg. Let cool at room temp for about one hour. Cover and refrigerate until cold, at least two hours or up to one week.
  • Whisk the remaining 1/2 cup heavy cream in a large bowl until stiff peaks form.
  • Slowly whisk the whipped cream into the chilled eggnog mixture, then whisk in the rum.
  • Pour into glasses, sprinkle with nutmeg and serve with cinnamon sticks.

2. Sugar Cookie Martini

Ingredients

  • Vanilla frosting and sprinkles, for rimming the glass
  • 1 1/2 ounce vanilla vodka
  • 1 1/2 ounces Irish cream
  • 2 ounces milk
  • 1 ounce amaretto
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Spread the frosting along the rim of a martini glass (you can also dip it into the frosting). Pour the sprinkles into a shallow dish or saucer, and dip the frosting-covered glass into the sprinkles. Set aside.
  • In a cocktail shaker, mix together the vanilla vodka, Irish cream, milk, amaretto, powdered sugar, and ice. Close lid and shake for at least 15 seconds to mix and chill.
  • Pour into the prepped glass. Serve.

3. Peppermintini

Ingredients

  • 1 candy cane, finely crushed
  • 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger vanilla vodka
  • 1 fluid ounce peppermint schnapps
  • 1 fluid ounce half-and-half cream
  • 1 small candy cane

Ingredients

  • Wet the rim of a chilled martini glass with water, and dip into the crushed candy cane.
  • Pour the vodka, schnapps, and half-and-half into a cocktail shaker over ice.
  • Cover, and shake until the outside of the shaker has frosted.
  • Strain into the rimmed martini glass, and garnish with candy cane to serve.

4. Christmosas

Ingredients

  • 2 Granny Smith apples, chopped
  • 1 cup whole fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup green grapes, halved
  • 1 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1 cup sparkling grape juice
  • 1 bottle champagne, prosecco or cava

Instructions

  • In a large pitcher, add apples, cranberries, grapes, and pomegranate seeds.
  • Pour over sparkling grape juice and champagne just before serving.

5. Santa Clausmopolitan

Ingredients

  • Lime wedge, for the rim
  • White sanding sugar, for the rim
  • Ice
  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 1/2 cups cranberry juice
  • 1/4 cup triple sec
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup cranberries, optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Run the lime wedge around the rim of your martini glass
  • Dip the rim of the martini glass in the sugar, creating a sugar rim
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice
  • Add the vodka, cranberry juice, triple sec, and lime juice into the cocktail shaker and shake until cold
  • Strain the drink evenly into the martini glass
  • Garnish with cranberries and serve

6. Hot Toddy

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 ounces whiskey
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons honey, to taste
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons lemon juice, to taste
  • 1 lemon round
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a teapot or saucepan, bring the water to a simmer. Pour the hot water into a mug.
  • Add the whiskey, 2 teaspoons honey and 2 teaspoons lemon juice. Stir until the honey has disappeared into the hot water. Taste, then add 1 teaspoon honey for more sweetness, and/or 1 teaspoon more lemon juice for more zing.
  • Garnish with a lemon round and cinnamon stick.

7. Rumchata Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1 Packet hot cocoa mix
  • 1 oz Rumchata
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, caramel
  • Cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat the milk over the stove top until desired temperature is reached
  • Remove from heat and stir in the hot cocoa mix
  • Once mix is full dissolved, stir in the shot of Rumchata
  • Pour into mug and add desired toppings (whipped cream, marshmallows, caramel sprinkles)
  • Garnish with cinnamon sticks and serve

8. Snowflake Martinis

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Vodka
  • White chocolate liqueur
  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Sugar, for the rim
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Prep the rim of the martini glass by coating in sugar
  • Fill a martini shaker halfway with ice
  • Pour in 2 ounces of vanilla vodka
  • Add 2 ounces of white chocolate liqueur
  • Add in 1 ounce of heavy whipping cream
  • Close the martini shaker tightly with the lid and vigorously shake
  • Pour the finished martinis into the prepared sugared glass

9. Dirty Snowman

Ingredients

  • Chocolate syrup
  • Chocolate sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
  • Kahlua
  • Dark creme de cacao liquor
  • Hot chocolate
  • Whipped cream, mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, additional chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  • Place chocolate syrup on a small plate and dip the rim in the chocolate syrup and then into a shallow tray of chocolate sprinkles.
  • Place a scoop of ice cream into the glass
  • Add Kahlua and creme de cacao to the glass
  • Pour hot chocolate over the ice cream and liquor
  • Top with any of your desired garnishes and serve

10. Apple Cider Old Fashioned

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup apple cider
  • 2 ounces bourbon or whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 3 drops of bitters
  • 1 apple slice, for garnish
  • 1 orange slice, for garnish
  • Cinnamon stick for garnish

Instructions

  • In a lowball glass, stir together the apple cider, whiskey, maple syrup and bitters until combined.
  • Add in a large ice cube and top with an apple and orange slice and a cinnamon stick.
