On Tuesday, January 3, Netflix announced that the Outer Banks crew will kick off a third season on February 23. The series is created and executive produced by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, and follows a group of teens known as the Pogues in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
The official synopsis reads:
“After losing the gold and fleeing the Outer Banks, Season 3 finds the Pogues washed ashore on a desert island that, for a brief moment, seems like an idyllic home. Officially deemed ‘Poguelandia,’ the island’s newest residents spend their days fishing, swimming, and reveling in the carefree lifestyle of their temporary dwelling. But things quickly go south for John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo when they find themselves once again caught up in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives.”
For those who need a recap, Season 2 ended with Ward (Charles Eastern) alive after faking his death. Ward and Rafe (Drew Starkey) had gotten away with the gold cross after almost killing Sarah (Madelyn Cline). The Pogues escaped and ended up on a deserted island. Rafe made a promise to Ward that he’d bring his sister home. The biggest shock came when John B’s dad (Charles Halford), who everyone thought to be dead at the hands of Ward, is revealed as alive and has been hiding out in Barbados.
The photos highlight that the Pogues seem to get off of the island and end up elsewhere, on the run again.
The executive producers said that, “the stakes are ramping up” for the Pogues in the new season, as they “realize that their adventures in the first two seasons were merely the prelude to granddaddy of all treasure hunts.”
“The cast have been fast friends in real life pretty much from the very beginning, and it’s been so gratifying to see those connections deepen over the years we’ve worked on the show,” added Outer Banks’ creators. “They are truly Pogues for Life.”
