Stella McCartney has been awarded a CBE at Windsor Castle, in honor of her services to the fashion industry and sustainability. She was presented with the honor by King Charles with Skunk Anasie singer Deborah Dyer.
“Humbled to be recognized for my mission to bring sustainability to fashion,” the designer said of her news. “As a British designer, this is such a proud and emotional day for me – not only to receive this incredible accolade from King Charles III, but also to have been included in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s final Birthday Honors.”
Stella McCartney is possibly one of the most well-known sustainable designers in the fashion industry. Since launching her label in 2001, she’s worked hard to build up the eco-conscious brand, following in the footsteps of her mother, Linda McCartney, who was known for her animal-rights activism. Before starting her own label, McCartney was the creative director of Chloé for four years.
McCartney attended the Cop26 climate change summit in 2021 where she argued that the fashion world had been “getting away with murder” and called for the industry to cut down on waste and greenhouse gas emissions. As part of her green efforts, the designer recently launched her new Frayme bag, the first in the world to be made out of vegan leather, as well as her eco-friendly skincare line STELLA.
The royal family has acknowledged Stella McCartney for her efforts previously. In 2013, the fashion designer was awarded an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
