When traveling with a partner for the first time, it can reveal a lot about you as an individual and your relationship. You’re totally immersed in a new place and culture, which can bring out the good and bad in you. It’s important to remember certain things when you’ve never traveled with someone before, especially your partner, that you may have different expectations when going on the trip. So we’ve created a type of rule book on the dos and don’ts when traveling with your significant other for the first time.
The Dos
Compromise your top priorities
You’re both going to have some different ideas of what you want to do and where you want to go when you visit. So you should both make a list of your top three places that you want to go to and make sure to visit all six.
Take pictures together
Don’t be the person that doesn’t want to take photos. You’ll later love (or hate) having the pictures. One way or the other, you won’t regret having these memories stored somewhere.
Come up with fun experiences on your own
Don’t expect your significant other to be the one to find all of the fun things to do while traveling. Also do some research of your own before you leave and have an idea of some stuff you can do before you get there. They’ll appreciate it.
Try new activities
This is the perfect chance to immerse yourself in a new culture and try new things. You don’t want to go home and wish you did something that you could have done while you were on your trip.
Cover the bill occasionally
If you can cover the bill from time to time, do it. They’ll love you for helping pay your way.
Be on time
If there’s a schedule you need to follow, be considerate and be on time.
The Don’ts
Be too inflexible when scheduling things
Go with the flow
Say no to new adventures
Be open to new experiences, you may enjoy them.
Complain all the time
This can get really annoying, really fast, especially on a trip. It may even end a relationship if bad enough.
Be on your phone the whole time
Why even take a trip if you’re going to be glued to your phone? It’s okay to take photos, but be present.
