After months of questioning, Prince Harry and Meghan have officially received an invite for King Charles’ coronation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had kept details of the correspondence private but confirmed receipt after a royal aide briefed Britain’s Times of London on Saturday that an invitation had been sent out.
“I can confirm the Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” a spokesperson for the couple said. “And immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”
Even though the coronation will be held May 6, there will be three days of events making up a long celebratory weekend in the U.K. The coronation ceremony of King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort will be held at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, the following day will have a Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle, and on Monday, May 8, the Coronation “Big Lunch” will take place across the country, where members of the public are encouraged to volunteer and share “food and fun” together.
Due to their recent eviction from Frogmore Cottage, a Daily Mail report claims that the king will offer the use of a Buckingham Palace apartment or rooms at St. James’s Palace as an “olive branch” when the family visits the UK in the future.
There has been lots of speculation of whether or not Prince Harry and Meghan will actually attend the coronation following tensions with his family. This included an account of an altercation with his brother Prince William, who is likely to have a role in the coronation ceremony. In a previous interview about his memoir, Prince Harry had declined to say whether he would attend his father’s coronation, saying, “The door is always open. The ball is in their court.”
