How To Apply Perfume Correctly

It’s likely that by now you know someone who always smells great when you come in contact with them: their fragrance is always apparent, but never overwhelming. If you’ve ever felt torn between applying perfume sparingly enough to make it fade in an instant and using it so much that it’s offensive, you’ve probably wondered how people get that just right amount. So, we bring to you the correct way to apply perfume so that way you get all the compliments.

Apply perfume right after you shower

Many people wait until the end of their beauty routine to apply perfume. Before leaving the house, we think spraying it on skin, hair and clothes is the best way to make perfume last longer. Wrong. The fragrance is released more intensely when applied directly after a shower or bath on dry, but still slightly damp and warm skin. Don’t worry – the perfume can still be smelled through the clothes.

Apply the lotion first, then perfume

Dry skin practically inhales the fragrance, preventing it from expressing its full potential. It’s better to spread the lotion or cream onto the skin prior to the perfume. Ideally, use a body lotion so that the smell of the skincare product doesn’t compete with the perfume. Then spray the fragrance on the pulse-points (wrists, folds of the arms, neck and ear lobes). Body heat is especially radiated to these parts of the body, bringing out the essence more intensely.

Don’t forget the navel

It may seem strange, but among the pulsation points there is also the navel. Located in the middle of the body, it heats up especially intensely, which is why the fragrances develop ideally at this spot. Considering that the belly is often covered by clothes is not a disadvantage, but it does mean that the perfume molecules do not evaporate quickly.

Don’t spray normal perfume on your hair

Obviously we know hair is an excellent carrier of perfume: if the strands are blown by the wind or if they move, people nearby will notice the fragrance. Unfortunately, due to the high alcohol content, perfume dries out hair in the long run. This is why it’s important to buy a hair perfume that contains no alcohol, or much less, and protects hair from moisture loss. Some hair perfumes also contain nourishing oils to give added shine.
