Everything You Need To Know About The Coronation Concert

The day following King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s coronation at Westminster Abbey, the royals will be treated to a special event entitled the Coronation Concert. The Coronation Concert is one of the several festivities that celebrates the king’s historic succession to the throne. BBC and BBC Studios will produce and broadcast the show, which will include performances from Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, and more. Below is everything you need to know about the Coronation Concert.

The blowout event will take place on Sunday, May 7, 2023 on the grounds of Windsor Castle. The concert will also include a segment called “Lighting Up the Nation,” in which different iconic locations throughout the U.K. will be lit up via projections, lasers, drone displays, and luminations.

Katy Perry and Lionel Richie are among the A-listers who will perform for the newly-crowned king and queen at the Coronation Concert. The event will also include performances by Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Take That, Freya Ridings, and Alexis Ffrench.

Perry and Richie, who are both American Idol judges, have prior relationships with the king. In 2020, Perry was appointed as an ambassador of The British Asian Trust, a charity co-founded by the then-Prince Charles. Meanwhile, Richie became the first global ambassador for The Prince’s Trust in 2019.

The Coronation Choir, a group that will recruit members from different choirs throughout the U.K., will join the roster of performers. This group will perform alongside the Virtual Choir, which will also include other singers from across the Commonwealth.

Aside from the king and queen, other senior members of the royal family are expected to attend the event, such as Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children. Prince Harry, who will attend the coronation service without his wife, Meghan, will likely not be present at the Coronation Concert.

The event will be broadcast live through BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds. Other news outlets are expected to broadcast the show.
