Miley Cyrus has enjoyed being a blonde for a long time now. But for the time in a long time, Miley has returned to her roots as a brunette. On Sunday night, at The Daily Front Row’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards in Beverly Hills, Miley debuted a gorgeous new brunette dye job while presenting her collaborator Bradley Kenneth with the Stylist of the Year award. Miley’s freshly darkened waves mark the first time she’s been brunette since 2012, when she famously chopped off her hair into a pixie and dyed it platinum blonde while releasing her hit single “We Can’t Stop.”
Her decision to go darker is one she began thinking about at the end of last year, even consulting her godmother, Dolly Parton, on whether or not to do it. Apparently, Dolly Parton had her doubts about Miley going back to her roots, but Miley decided to follow her heart and go against the country singer’s advice anyways/ “I’ve never seen Dolly actually scared before,” Miley said during an appearance on the Today show back in December. “She clutched her pearls, gasped, and went back, and she goes, ‘You can’t do that. You are me.'”
Lucky for Parton, plenty of peroxide is still in Miley’s lengths, as she’s still sporting a dichromatic look with a mixture of tones ranging from chocolate brown to cool beige blonde. The overall effect is very Hannah Montana, who had a fondness for chunky highlights and lowlights. Wherever Miley lands on the blonde-to-brunette spectrum, she’s going to look great. That’s for sure.
