Barbie-core Beauty Was The Key Look At The Chanel Show In LA

This week in Los Angeles, Chanel channeled an early ’90s City of Angels and graced us with a runway show embracing nothing but the best. Promos for the Chanel show featured billboards, beaches and aerobic routines echoing Cindy Crawford and Jane Fonda’s exercise tapes. The other element that was reminiscent of the era was the hair, which stood the line between late-century throwback (va-va-volume) and current-trend Barbie-core.

To accompany designer Virginie Viard’s resort collection of shimmering shorts, leotards and sequined sets (LA through the ages), hairstylist James Pecis whipped models’ hair into side-swept Barbie blowouts. Makeup artist Lisa Butler turned to the retro look: eyes were rimmed with blurred liner, and peach was liberally applied across the lips and cheeks. The beauty looks felt timely from a pop culture perspective, especially with Margot Robbie sitting front row. Between the upcoming Barbie movie and recent release of Daisy Jones and the Six, nostalgic, somewhat retro details are everywhere.

So, if the Chanel show and all the other sources are correct, which they usually are, we’re about to start seeing a bunch of retro and dramatic beauty looks.
