Taylor Swift may have just dropped a huge hidden message with her most recent outfit. The singer has been spending time in New York City between Eras Tour stops, and massive amounts of fans have been lingering outside of her apartment (even chasing her car and following her home), creating a bizarre situation that has caused the trend “Leave her alone” on Twitter.
Although Taylor Swift has not said anything about her invasion of privacy, some Swift fans think outfit on Monday was a direct reference to a scene in the 2020 documentary Miss Americana, in which she spoke about the mob of people gathering outside her home. On Monday, she wore a crisp white cropped button-up, black denim jean shorts, tan leather criss-cross sandals, and a Ralph Lauren calfskin Wellington shoulder bag. In the documentary, she wore basically the same outfit.
In the scene from Miss Americana, Taylor Swift leaves her home surrounded by a large crowd of fans and tells the camera, “Well, so this is my front yard. And I’m highly aware of the fact that this is not normal.”
Back in 2020, Swift spoke to Paul McCartney for Rolling Stone about what it feels like to have such little privacy, especially when it came to her then-relationship with Joe Alwyn.
“I know you have done a really excellent job of this in your personal life: carving out a human life within a public life and how scary that can be when you do fall in love and you meet someone, especially if you’ve met someone who has a very grounded, normal way of living,” she said. “I, oftentimes, in my anxieties, can control how I am as a person and how normal I act and rationalize things, but I cannot control if there are 20 photographers outside in the bushes and what they do and if they follow our car and if they interrupt our lives. I can’t control if there’s going to be a fake weird headline about us in the news tomorrow.”
