Today is Cruel Summer season 2 release day, and fans of the thriller series are sure to be pleased. In a new trailer released by Freeform, the dynamic between the new leads Megan (Sadie Stanley) and Isabella (Lexi Underwood) is clear – and the drama and tense friendship dynamics are definitely set in motion.
Cruel Summer season 2 is set in a small Pacific Northwest town about to head into the new millenium. Told across 1999 to 2000, the new season focuses on the friendship between Megan – a computer coder and honor student from a blue-collar family who wants to work for Apple – and Isabella – a bold exchange student who comes to live with Megan’s family. When events take a tragic turn, Megan’s long-held dreams are dashed, and she is left wondering who she can trust. According to the official synopsis, “the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke (Griffin Gluck), the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.”
The new trailer from Cruel Summer season 2 shows the two girls on a cliff holding hands saying, “To the best friend I could ever ask for. My ultimate ride or die.” Then they jump into the water. Further in the clip, the viewer can see a bodybag as Isabella is convincing Megan they “have to get [their] stories straight.” Megan is later telling Isabella, “You pushed me past my breaking point,” and the two seem very tense. There’s clearly a lot of drama and tension between these “ride or dies”.
The season premiere of Cruel Summer season 2 is tonight, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform. Episodes will air weekly throughout the summer. Check out the trailer from the series below.
