The Hollywood strikes are making a huge impact as the first major award show gets pushed back. The 2023 Emmys – the prestigious television award show, which was set to take place on 18 September – has now been postponed, although a new date has yet to be set.
According to Variety, the Emmys has told vendors, producers and all those involved with organizing the event that it will not be taking place in September. A new date has not been confirmed, but the publication announced that both November and January have been suggested. If it takes place early next year, the Emmys will have to fit in around all the other major award ceremonies, such as the Academy Awards, the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes.
The news that the Emmys has been postponed will not come as a shock to many. With fewer than two months until the 2023 Emmys ceremony was set to take place, it wasn’t looking likely that the strikes would end.
Both the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild are involved in the walkout. None of the actors or writers in the unions are capable to partake in any publicity while the strikes are going on, so the ceremony could possibly have taken place, but only to an empty room. However, many of the writers typically involved in writing the scripts for the award ceremony will also be striking and incapable to partake, making it more complicated for the show to go on.
The 2023 Emmys was initially expected to draw in an A-list crowd with the likes of Brian Cox, Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Coolidge and Alexander Skarsgard all nominated.
