Prada Launches Prada Beauty

Prada Launches Prada Beauty

Prada is officially launching makeup and reviving its skincare line. Luckily, you won’t even have to wait for it. As of tomorrow, ( 1st August), Prada Beauty will be available to shop at Selfridges.

Hidden from us, Prada has been foreshadowing this venture for some time: color has been a hot topic at the brand for the last two seasons. For autumn/winter 2023, co-designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons delivered sumptuous pieces in sorbet hues of lemonade, pistachio and candy-floss pink. The iconic Galleria handbag was revived via statement shades of emerald green, lavender and bright limoncello, while a two-tone tangerine and pink version rests in Scarlett Johansson’s arm in the campaign. In the spring/summer 2023 show, a striking red garbadine dress had fanatics scavenging to find a matching lipstick shade.

Given the success of Prada’s fragrance line, the addition of a color cosmetics and skincare line doesn’t come as a surprise. Prada Pardoxe – the perfume which launched in 2022 with Emma Watson as its face – quickly took over bestselling lists and social media as fans rushed to buy the sparkling, fruity scent in its aesthetically-pleasing triangular bottle. The beauty line mirrors a similar design, with triangular eyeshadows and lipstick bullets, plus luxurious pots of cream, all housed in a futuristic, reflective silver packaging.

In a joint statement to WWD, Prada and Simons shared, “Abandoning all the clichés of the past, we believe that beauty today is the representation of one’s personality, freedom and self-confidence.” This translates to eye palettes including shades of aubergine, aqua blue and a splash of Barbie pink.

The beauty team, led by makeup artist Lynsey Alexander and 3D artist Inès Marzat, were granted access to Prada’s vault of 27,000 fabrics and prints to inform the color collection and secure consistent dialogue between the brand’s beauty and fashion groups. “Everything was set to me in terms of Saffiano leather textures, nylon swatches of fabric, archive prints,” Alexander shared with WWD. “I basically turned my house into a sort of Prada catalogue.”

The color collection will see “hyper extreme” finishes and textures such as richly-pigmented mattes and metallic foils that promise clean, precise application. According to Alexander, “Mrs. Prada hates glitter”, so in its place, expect high-shine yet sophisticated gleams and sheens.

Prada Skincare previously launched in 2000 prior to being discontinued. This time it has been launched using rare plant extracts within its Adapto.gn Smart Technology to allow the skin to shield itself from aggressors.

Achieving the correct balance between creativity and wearability, everything within the Prada Beauty line promises to be highly desirable with plenty of tasteful formulas and purified textures to satisfy the most selective customer.
