Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari have split after one year of marriage and seven years of dating, TMZ reports. Multiple sources confirmed the separation to people to People as well.
TMZ‘s sources told the outlet that the separation was due to “a nuclear argument that involve[d] allegations of cheating”.
Other sources with “direct knowledge” told TMZ that it was Asghari who confronted Britney Spears about a week ago over rumors that she had been cheating on him. Asghari believed the rumor, although TMZ noted that it was debatable whether it was actually rooted in fact. The accusation led to a huge fight and Asghari moved out of their house into his own place. One source told the outlet, “It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce.” Spears has a prenup that protects her assets, TMZ shared.
Sources also told TMZ that Spears’ behavior had been unpredictable “at times”, and Asghari had reached his limit and felt distraught dealing with it.
The singer’s last Instagrams have been dance-focused. Asghari posted two weeks ago about his mother recovering from an accident and announced he would be taking a social media hiatus.
“I’m so Grateful for the love and support you guys had during Mama Asghari’s recovery after the accident,” he wrote. “Sending a huge thank you to the amazing medical staff at Cedars-Sinai ER. Moments like these remind us of life’s preciousness. Taking a social media break to prioritize what truly matters. See you very soon.”
Neither Britney Spears nor Asghari have publicly commented on the breakup yet.
