The Skater Skirt Will Be The Skirt Of The Fall

The Skater Skirt Will Be The Skirt Of The Fall

We tend to forget the skater skirt due to its somewhat childish appearance and its preppy look reserved for students from big schools. After taking on major screen time worn by Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl in the 2010s, the skater skirt seems determined to remake a spot in our wardrobes.

The skater skirt, invented in the 1980s, takes its name from the shape of the models worn at the time by figure skaters. It is characterized by a fluid, light style, a short cut, fitted at the waist, and flared at the bottom, all in order to offer skaters constant freedom of movement. Rejected for some time, it seems this skirt is once again inspiring designers who revisit it in a plethora of ways, and celebrities on the streets of Fashion Week and beyond in 2023.

Originally, the skater skirt was short. Now, designers have given the skirt a refresh and offer it in all kinds of lengths. If we are to believe the spring-summer 2024 fashion shows, it will be popular in denim and pleated. What won’t change? The high waist.

This sudden craze comes because the skater skirt is easy to wear and adapts well to all silhouettes. As the start of the school year, we can wear it with a blazer, a shirt, and leather or biker boots.
