The Ballerina Manicure Was The Star Manicure At The Venice Film Festival

Short and square nails, otherwise known as the ballerina manicure, have returned. And the guests at the 2023 Venice Film were quick to show off these clean-looking manicures. The dancing manicure took over the City of Canals, where models, actresses, directors and socialites surrendered to the charms of its shape and tone, so elegant and natural. The ballerina manicure is designed to enhance the natural beauty of the hands, without artifice, and therein lies all its discreet charm.

The ballerina manicure is not characterized so much by a certain color as by the shape that distinguishes the tips: square and with gently rounded ends. This season, “although medium-length nails are still popular, we’re going to see a return to shorter, softer square nails. They are low-maintenance and are great if you want to go for a bold, statement nail color,” says Rita Remark, Manicurist and Essie Global Lead Educator.

According to celebrity manicurist Zola Ganzorigt, “People go for a natural beauty look, and short nails are so much easier to wear. They also require less maintenance than long ones – you don’t have to worry about breaking a nail.” Not sure what manicure to get this fall? Just stick with the ballerina manicure, no doubt.

In theory, the ballerina manicure only determines the shape of the nail, not its color, but the most popular short nails at the 2023 Venice Film Festival were in nude tones: from milky nails to the Japanese manicure. The tones that best comes to mind when thinking about the ballerina manicure is Ballet Slippers by Essie or Le Vernis 111 Ballerina by Chanel, of which it is recommended to apply three coats for a perfect finish.
