New York Fashion Week always has Studio 54 references, and at the Michael Kors show this morning Blake Lively went full disco in a ’70s-inspired gold jumpsuit. It may have been a Monday morning show, but the actress’s look had Saturday night glam to it.
Michael Kors presented his spring/summer 2024 show in Brooklyn’s Domino Park, overlooked by the Williamsburg Bridge. Also in attendance were the likes of Olivia Wilde, Rita Ora and Vanessa Hudgens. Lively wore a skin-tight jumpsuit from the label’s autumn/winter 2023 collection, which was made from jersey stitched with micro golden sequins and joined into billowing bell-bottom flares.
Kors’s inspiration for that collection was loaded with ’70s muses, such as Cher, Tina Turner and Jane Fonda. “We hear the word ‘influencer’ today, and of course, it means one thing in today’s world. But I was really thinking about the things that influenced me when I was coming of age in the ’70s: the women who influenced me,” he said last season.
It appeared as though Lively’s glam team was in the ’70s mood too, as she had her hair in bouncy curls, bronzed eyes and cheeks, and wore oversized gold hoop earrings. This disco-ready look really seems to resemble Serena van der Woodsen – her character in Gossip Girl wore gold for nearly all of her biggest scenes (even her wedding dress had a gold bustier).
“The women [who intrigue me] break the rules, do things their own way,” Kors previously said of his ’70s muses. Showing up on a Monday morning in gold sequins is one way to be a muse in Kors’s eyes.
