The estranged relationship between Kate Middleton, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle is not about to be fixed any time soon, Us Weekly reports. In fact, a source revealed Kate Middleton is less open than William is to reconciling with Harry and Meghan at this point.
“Kate has no desire to communicate with Harry nor Meghan,” the source said. “There has been too much that has happened, and she’s not ready yet.”
William, however, is more concerned about his relationship with his younger brother. “William wants his relationship with his brother to improve, but they’re not speaking right now,” the source continued. “So when that will happen is still uncertain.”
As for Kate and William’s marriage? The source said it has been rocky lately. “Kate and William have been having ups and downs in their marriage like everyone else,” the source said. “But they’re focused on their royal duties and doing that as a unit.”
Kate’s indifference in engaging with Harry and Meghan isn’t surprising, at least in regards to Meghan. The two royal wives have never been close. In April, a source said Kate was “relieved” Meghan was not attending King Charles’ coronation.
Harry also shared in his memoir, Spare, that Kate felt anxious about Meghan from the start of their relationship. During their first royal event together, Harry wrote that Kate was likely “on edge,” comprehending that she was then “going to be compared to, and forced to compete with, Meg.”
Before then, royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their Meghan and Harry biography, Finding Freedom, that as Meghan acclimated to the royal family, things between her and Kate did not improve.
“Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends,” the authors wrote at the time, noting that Kate and Meghan weren’t feuding either. “Their relationship hadn’t progressed much since she was Harry’s girlfriend.”
They reported that Kate felt she and Meghan had little in common other than their connection to the royal family. As such, the now Princess of Wales didn’t really make a deep effort to become close to Meghan.
