A main piece of the women’s wardrobe, the dress is popular each season according to the trends of the moment. Sometimes simple, sometimes sexy, it goes with us on all occasions, whether for a walk outside, dancing the night away, to a wedding ceremony, during end-of-year celebrations or even to go to work. A tried-and-true essential, it can also be worn in any season: warm and comforting in winter as well as light and airy in summer. For fall-winter 2023-2024, we especially noticed on the catwalks certain styles that were eye-catching and are certain to be the big dress trends this season. Below are the dress trends for fall-winter 2023-2024.
Knitted dress
Comforting and concealing, the ultimate advantage of the knit dress is also that it flatters all silhouettes. For a look that’s spot on trend, try a turtleneck version like Fendi, or even asymmetrical, like at Ester Manas, proving that the knit dress can also be sexy.
Slip dress
A comeback that we have been seeing for several seasons now but which continues to be confirmed: that of the slip dress in silk or satin, with minimalist charm and which goes with everything. The right choice, seen in the collections? Slit along its length, inspired by Atlein or clean and slightly transparent, as at Bottega Veneta.
The black dress
If there is one essential piece in a wardrobe, it’s the black dress. Popularized for everyday use by Coco Chanel, it has since never left the rotation of essential pieces to have at home. Ultra-chic, without ever being unforgiving: this is the definition of the ultimate good classic. If it was obviously present in the fall-winter 2023-2024 collections, the little black dress has taken on more daring contours than ever: at Courrèges, for example, it is backless and adorned with a large golden ring while that at Chanel, it has playful floral details.
Leather dress
A piece of power dressing better than most others, the leather dress has particularly come back to the forefront this season. We note in particular nearly 117 occurrences on Tagwalk and it has been seen on numerous catwalks, sometimes modest versions, tempering its ultra-sensual aura, sometimes deliberately assumed and daring. Just one memo? Choose it in a dark color palette – black or chocolate – and preferably in vegan leather.
Bohemian dress
A basic with a solar aura that returns every year during the fall-winter season without ever aging. With its play on volumes, its maxi lengths or its folk prints, the bohemian dress certainly finds its place in our mid-season wardrobe. To wear it well, take inspiration from the silhouettes in autumnal shades seen at Ulla Johnson and Etro.
Gathered dress
The hot trend of the moment features well-placed gathers for a guaranteed flat stomach effect. For a big night look, opt for a model with dramatic lengths like at the Victoria Beckham fashion show or one-shoulder like Blumarine.
The sweater dress
A style essential, especially when the temperatures start to drop, both warm and cozy. A cocoon piece as we like them, spotted in a neutral shade at Isabel Marant and in a preppy style at Miu Miu.
Floral dress
No more dresses with rustic or ingenuous charm reserved for summer, this season, the floral dress can be worn in two different ways: 3D style, or with a maxi print available in a dark color palette. Another version from which we draw inspiration, spotted at Elie Saab: all in subtlety and delicacy, like a watercolor or an impressionist painting.
