4 Ways To Get More Energy Without Caffeine

How we perceive energy in today’s age of productivity was become a little skewed. We need to be constantly producing, feeding our body and brain with caffeine in order to keep going – but that’s not real energy. The result? Exhaustion.

The truth is, caffeine doesn’t actually give us energy. It’s an adenosine-receptor antagonist. This means caffeine dulls our response to sleepiness, allowing us to forget that we are tired, and so we feel stimulated and alert. While this is a biohack, it’s troublesome to become addicted, as caffeine has a negative impact on our sleep.

In order to live our best utmost healthy lives, we must receive restful sleep each night to refuel our brains, heal our skin, fight aging and disease, and have loads of energy to get us through each day. It may sound like biohacking, but there are things you can do that are really just part of a healthy, realistic lifestyle as our bodies intended.

Wake up at the same time every day

Sleep inertia is that groggy feeling we have when our alarm sounds. It feels unwelcome and offensive, and some of us actually feel unwell when this happens, as if going back to sleep is the only option. It’s an actual issue and an indication that something is wrong in our sleeping patterns, which will affect our energy throughout the day, if not our overall wellness.

Get light within 15 minutes of waking up

Getting sunlight (even artificial sunlight) in the eyes first thing in the morning prompts melatonin production 16 hours later, so you’ll naturally feel tired when it’s time for bed.

Breathe

As soon as you wake up, take a few deep breaths. Continue some mindful breathing on a morning walk while receiving your early sunlight, and maybe some yoga to continue the morning breath flowing.

Get moving

When you begin to get your body moving, it helps with your energy levels. This is because it forces your metabolism to increase in pace, fast. This will also cause a flood of hormonal changes, promoting things like cortisol production – basically the energy hormone. More cortisol means more energy.
