Adrian Appiolaza Is Named Moschino’s New Creative Director

Adrian Appiolaza has been appointed as creative director of Moschino and will present his first collection for the house during Milan Fashion Week on February 22. The show will be hosted at the Museo Della Permanente, where Franco Moschino celebrated his label’s 10th anniversary in 1993 with an exhibition titled “Moschino: X Anni di Kaos! 1983-1993.”

Adrian Appiolaza will report to Massimo Ferretti, executive chairman of Moschino’s owner company, Aeffe Group. His most recent position was a ready-to-wear design director at Loewe, a position he held for 10 years. Prior to that, he was in the same position for two years under Clare Waight Keller at Chloé. Earlier in his career, Appiolaza worked for Phoebe Philo at Chloé, for Miu Miu, and for Marc Jacobs during the designer’s tenure at Louis Vuitton.

“We are happy and honored to welcome Adrian to the Aeffe family,” Ferretti said in a statement. “I was immediately struck by the explosive creativity of Adrian, a personality full of energy and enthusiasm, elements that have always distinguished the history of the Moschino brand.”

“Adrian brings with him a unique wealth of experience, creativity, and knowledge of the history of fashion that will be instrumental to write a wonderful new chapter in the adventure of the brand founded by Franco Moschino,” he added.

Adrian Appiolaza’s appointment at Moschino makes him the successor of the Italian designer Davide Renne, who died suddenly in November only 10 days after beginning the role. Moschino hired Renne to replace Jeremy Scott just last year. Despite the tragic circumstances, Appiolaza will of course lead Moschino into a successful future.

“I am ready to transport Moschino into a new chapter,” the designer said in an announcement, adding that he aims to do so “with a theatrical touch, in the pure style of Moschino.”
