Paris Hilton got everything she could hope for for her 40th birthday. The heiress’s boyfriend, Carter Reum, proposed on a private island on Feb. 13 after they celebrated Hilton’s birthday. Reum popped the question with an original ring designed by Jean Dousset – the great-great-grandson of famed jeweler Louis Cartier. The couples’ families were also there to celebrate, including Hilton’s sister, Nicky, and Reum’s brother, Courtney Reum.
“I am excited about this next chapter and having such a supportive partner,” Paris told Vogue about her new engagement. “Our relationship is one of equals. We make each other better people. He was absolutely worth the wait!”
Paris also shared a video giving fans a look at the design process behind the custom ring via a hand-painted sketch highlighting the details on her YouTube channel.
Reum, 39, is a longtime friend of the Hilton family. He’s an author and entrepeneur known for co-founding the liquor brand VEEV Spirits with his brother, Courtney. He also started M13, a VC firm based in L.A. and NYC that’s invested in startups which have become household names like Daily Harvest, Lyft, Ring, and Rothys. Reum attended Columbia University before starting his career at Goldman Sachs and then striking out on his own as an entrepreneur.
“From our very first date, I was able to get to know the real Paris,” Reum told Vogue. “As people who have seen her documentary and recent advocacy work know, Paris is kind, smart, driven, authentic, and an amazing woman, and I can’t wait to have her as a partner in life.”
Hilton of course also had to take her excitement to instagram. She shared a heartfelt post to her fiancé with pictures of the proposal.

Hilton and Reum have known each other for 15 years, but only began dating last November after they spent Thanksgiving together. “We just had this incredible chemistry. We had our first date and haven’t spent a night apart since. It’s pretty amazing,” Hilton told PEOPLE.
