The Met Gala 2023 Dress Code Has Been Announced

The Met Gala 2023 is just a few months away, and today Vogue has officially announced the celebrities who will host the red carpet event and the dress code.

Editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, has chosen Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, and Michaela Coel to be the official co-chairs of the evening along with her. Each of these personalities have made headlines recently.

The event will pay tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld, with the dress code being “In honor of Karl”. The Costume Institute will honor the time with its spring exhibition, supported by Fendi, Chanel and the Karl Lagerfeld brand. The accompanying exhibition, named “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” will feature 150 looks designed by Lagerfeld throughout his career, curated by Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s Curator in Charge, and longtime Lagerfeld collaborator Amanda Harlech, who is serving as the exhibition’s creative consultant.

Typically associated with the house of Chanel, he built a very identifiable aesthetic of our time, with the epitome of French elegance, of which he became one of the most iconic designers of all time. Lagerfeld has designed for a number of houses – Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel, and his own brand Karl Lagerfeld. So honoring the designer at the Met Gala allows the attendees with many options. Anna Wintour, who was a dear friend of Lagerfeld, almost exclusively wore his designs to the Met Gala.

On its website, Vogue suggested some styling tips to those attending the event.

“The first, most authentic approach would be to wear an archival look from one of the labels Lagerfeld let,” the outlet suggested.

“The second would be to sport modern-day Chanel or Fendi, two houses on which Lagerfeld left and indelible impression.”

“The third – and perhaps most obvious? To find a Choupette all your own and dress à la Lagerfeld.” For those who don’t know, Choupette was Lagerfeld’s beloved cat.

Lagerfeld died February 19, 2019 at the age of 85 following complications of pancreatic cancer.
