Calling all Harry Potter fans – The series’ is getting a reboot, and this time as a TV series. It was announced on April 3 by Bloomberg that a brand-new “online TV series based on Harry Potter, the best-selling young adult books” is close to a deal.
In the original series, the cast consisted of: Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Emma Watson as Hermione, Rupert Grint as Ron, Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy, Michael Gambon and Richard Harris both as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Alan Rickman as Severus Snap, Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom, Maggie Smith as Minerva McGonagall, Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid, Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort, Gary Oldman as Sirius Black, Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange, Davis Thewlis as Remus Lupin, Oliver Phelps and James Phelps as Fred and George Weasley, Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley, Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood, Harry Melling as Dudley Dursley, Julie Walters as Molly Weasley, Mark Williams as Arthur Weasley, Brendan Gleeson as Alastor Moody, Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge, and Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy.

In the new TV series, however, the cast has not yet been mentioned. “Each of the series will be based on one of JK Rowling’s seven books, said the people [close to the source], who asked not to be identified since the deal hasn’t been announced, suggesting years of fresh fare from the popular stories,” says the outlet.
This plan is part of HBO’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery’s attempt to reboot some of its larger brands. This strategy began a few months ago with the announcement of James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over DC Studios, and continued a few weeks ago with word of rebooted Lord of the Rings films that will bring J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic books back to the screen for the first time in 20 years.

There’s no word yet on how involved Rowling would be with this new series. Bloomberg says, “That company’s chief executive officer, David Zasav, and HBO chief Casey Bloys have worked to convince Rowling to produce a new series, but the deal hasn’t been completed.”
Rowling has signed off to do stage play adaptations and a theme-park, but she has yet to sign off on new movies or a TV show. She insists on being involved in the series to ensure it “remains loyal to her original material but will not run the show day to day or serve as its primary creator.”
The Harry Potter books tell the story of a young boy whose parents were killed when he’s a baby by an evil wizard, Lord Voldemort. He’s raised by muggles (non-magical folk), then finds out on his eleventh birthday he’s a wizard and is invited to attend Hogwarts, a wizarding school, where he excels. He over and over again has to fight Lord Voldemort in order to save the whole wizarding community.
