Sofía Vegara is entering the world of beauty. For years, the actress loaded up on her favorite Spanish skincare brand, Heliocare, whenever she traveled abroad, and would even ask friends to bring back some of the brand if they were overseas.
Now, Vergara has launched her own beauty brand, Toty, in collaboration with Cantabria Labs, the creators of Heliocare. The label offers sunscreen, skincare, makeup, and wellness products. The Toty line uses proprietary PLE Fernboost Technology, which uses a powerful antioxidant rich in bioactive compounds to protect the wearer from sun damage. Toty’s makeup line also offers an adaptive pigment that combines color-coated mineral filters, which blend with all skin tones to give off a radiant finish.
“I wanted to bring something like Heliocare to the United States,” Vergara shared with Harper’s Bazaar. “We’ve had a million meetings to create something that will protect the skin and also fit the U.S. guidelines.”
For its launch, the vegan, cruelty-free line is dropping four products and two application tools: Ilumina CC Cream SPF 50+, available in 15 shades ($42); Ilumina CC Creamy Compact SPF 50+, refillable and available in 15 shades ($54); Solaria Mineral SPF 50+ ($42); and Solaria Infusion, an antioxidant booster supplement ($42). As far as tools, there are the Ilumina Brush ($28) and Ilumina Blender ($12).
All of these products help to protect the skin from the sun in order to prevent photoagin and free-radical damage – protection Vergara wishes she’d had when she was younger.
“I grew up in very tropical weather in Barranquilla, Colombia, and there was no one ever telling you, ‘Don’t get sunburn’ or ‘Don’t tan,'” she said. “I wish I had made that decision sooner also for the rest of my body, but I didn’t. I just thought to save my face, and that was it. So, I haven’t had my face in the sun without protection since the ’90s.”
