Even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is almost two, information about his birth certificate being changed a week after his birth has just been released. This obviously led to the Duchess of Sussex to release a statement clearing up any confusion.
A story was released this past weekend that Meghan’s name was changed on the baby’s birth certificate a week after he was born. The report said that the Duchess asked for her name to be changed from ‘Rachel Meghan, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex’ (remember, Meghan isn’t really her first name) to read ‘Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex’.
Some theories suspected that it was in tribute to Princess Diana, Harry’s mother, who was listed on his birth certificate as ‘Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales’. Others were just saying it could be some sort of snub.
But now Meghan’s team have stepped in to clarify what exactly happened. They shared that the name change occurred following a request from The Palace, and not from Meghan herself. “The change of name on public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials,” the statement from Team Meghan (to HELLO!) started.
The team continues to comment that this was a request from The Palace, and not from either of Archie’s parents. “This was not requested by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, nor by The Duke of Sussex.”
The statement also adds that Meghan finds the accusations offensive. “To see this UK tabloid and their carnival of so-called ‘experts’ chose to deceptively whip this into a calculated family ‘snub’ and suggest that she would oddly want to be nameless on her child’s birth certificate, or any other legal document, would be laughable were it not offensive.”
Oh, royals. They’re so entertaining.
