Natalie Portman is being honored at the Deauville American Film Festival this year.
Portman took her first steps in acting in the film Léon by Luc Besson. She was only 14-years-old when she played the role of Mathilda, but her work has very much been appreciated ever since. Natalie Portman has worked alongside some of the biggest names in film, such as George Lucas, Michael Mann, Woody Allen and Tim Burton, who all value her talent and professionalism.
She won an Oscar for best actress in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, and won two Golden Globes. She was nominated again in 2017 for her performance in Jackie, the feature film by Pablo Larrain, in which she plays the beloved former First Lady of the United States, Jacqueline Kennedy.
In addition to acting, Natalie Portman also is a director. In 2014, she directed her first film, A Story of Love and Darkness, which she adapted from the work of Israeli poet Amos Oz. The filming is done in Jerusalem, in her hometown, and Portman -despite her new director’s hat – plays the leading role.
On the boards of Deauville this year, Portman will support her latest film, May December by Todd Haynes, screened in preview for the occasion before its theatrical release.
For this 49th edition of the Festival, led by Guillaume Canet as the president of the jury, the committee has decided to honor Portman, “the star and the leading woman”, for having “been able to prove throughout her career that she could embody all kinds of characters with depth and accuracy,” announced the social networks of the Deauville Festival.
The Deauville American Film Festival will be in Deauville, France from September 1 to 10, 2023.
